This site will report on selected legislation of interest to responsible breeders under consideration in the current legislative session of the New York State Legislature. This session runs from early January 2023 to early January of 2024.
The bills listed were identified through word search of the NYS legislative website. Bills are listed on separate pages here on this site; one for Senate bills, another for Assembly bills. The linkages bring up appropriate pages on the NYS Legislature’s website. When bills are sponsored in both houses, both the Assembly and Senate Bill numbers will be shown. These bills are listed on their own page, which is the front page of this site. The links given for “same as bills” go to the either Senate or Assembly pages on the state’s site depending on which you click. S00000 or A00000 mean there is no same as bill in the other house.
Details on Method.Four separate searches of the NYS legislative website are made using the search terms “animal”, “dog”, “breeder”, and “pet dealer.” Offline, the identified lists of Senate or Assembly Bills are pasted together into a Word document. They are sorted and duplicate or irrelevant bills are removed. The resulting document is saved as a text file. Body and other HTML tags are added in a text editor and the file is saved as an HTML file. The HTML files are uploaded to these pages. Results may be viewed by clicking on the links given in the “Senate2024_2024.html” or in the Assembly2023_2024Bills.html Legislation pages.
